Made with thicker tread, stronger sidewalls, and more aggressive tread patterns to evacuate mud, snow, and water, these tires are designed to hit dirt roads, crawl rocks, and take on everything in between.

While shopping for off-road tires, the sizes look different than the standard size convention of regular car and truck tires, which can be confusing at first. On a normal passenger car, the tire size might be something like 225/60R17. Stepping into the world of off-road tires, the sizes look like 33×10.50-15, which is quite a bit different. So, what gives?

As the go-to tire guy among my friends after years of selling and installing them, I’ve had to explain the different sizing conventions quite a few times, and that’s the goal of this article. Knowing how tire sizes work makes it easier to swap from regular to off-road tires as needed to plan the perfect gravel-road adventure.

When it comes to optimizing your vehicle’s exhaust system, understanding the difference between exhaust manifolds and headers is crucial. In this article, we’ll explore the key differences, benefits, and ideal applications of these two exhaust parts, to help you make informed decisions for your vehicle.

What’s the Difference Between Headers and Exhaust Manifolds?

Headers and exhaust manifolds are both essential components of a vehicle’s exhaust system, each designed with specific functions and benefits tailored to different vehicle needs. Here’s a breakdown of their key differences:

Material and Construction

Headers typically consist of separate tubes that merge into a collector. Every tube is the same length on a properly built set of headers, thus the elaborate bending. They are usually made of thin yet highly durable stainless steel (but they can also be made of other materials such as ceramic-coated steel).

This unexpected shaking not only impacts your driving comfort but also affects your vehicle’s safety and performance.

In this article, we’ll explore the common issues that could cause a car to shake when braking and discuss potential solutions to help you address the problem and enjoy a safer driving experience.

Top Reasons Why Your Car Shakes When You Brake

If you’ve been wondering what causes your car to shake when braking, here are some common issues that could be the culprit:

Warped Brake Rotors

If you experience vibrations when braking, particularly when coming to a full stop, but also at highway speeds, this can be caused by warped brake rotors.

Worn-Out Brake Pads

Brake pads that are worn or covered with dirt from driving through deep muddy water or outright mud could be another reason why your car may shake when braking.

While you may be able to resolve the issue by cleaning them, it’s best to get your brake pads replaced or replace them yourself along with the rotors once you observe signs of wear.

The ignition switch is vital in managing your vehicle’s electrical system. Not only does it power its components, but it also starts and stops the engine. Several symptoms may arise when this part fails, indicating that it may be time for a replacement.

Knowing the signs of a bad ignition switch can help you address the issue sooner rather than later, ensuring your vehicle continues to operate normally.

What Are the Signs of a Bad Ignition Switch?

A faulty ignition switch can lead to a range of problems with your vehicle’s performance and functionality. But how can you tell if the ignition switch is bad? Here are some key indicators that suggest your ignition switch has gone bad and may need to be swapped out for a new one:

Engine Won’t Start (or Stop)

A common sign of a bad ignition switch is when the engine won’t start. If the engine cranks but doesn’t ignite, there may be an issue with the ignition system. In some cases, the engine may even keep running despite the key being removed from the ignition, although this is pretty rare.

Key Won’t Turn

Difficulty turning the key can indicate a faulty ignition switch. If the key is hard to turn or gets stuck in the keyhole, it could be a sign of serious issues with the ignition system..

Quiet Ignition

If your car is silent when you turn the ignition key, it could be due to a number of different problems. A dead battery is often the first thing to check, but faulty wiring or a malfunctioning ignition switch could also be the problem.

Stuck Steering Wheel

The steering wheel features a mechanical lock that engages with the ignition switch, providing extra security when the car is parked. However, if you experience difficulty turning the wheel, it’s important to have your vehicle inspected to prevent further issues.

Flickering Dashboard Lights

If you notice your dashboard lights flickering, it could be an ignition switch symptom, although warning lights can also signal problems like a low battery or the need for an oil change.

Accessories Won’t Power On

When your car’s accessories—like the radio or windshield wipers—won’t activate when you turn the key, it could point to a problem with the ignition’s electrical supply.

It’s essential to identify the symptoms before they become worse, so you can stay on top of your vehicle maintenance and get your faulty control arm replaced as soon as possible. What are the Signs of a Bad Control Arm? Here are the most common […]

A malfunctioning control arm can seriously impact your driving safety and experience. It’s essential to identify the symptoms before they become worse, so you can stay on top of your vehicle maintenance and get your faulty control arm replaced as soon as possible.

What are the Signs of a Bad Control Arm?

Here are the most common symptoms of malfunctioning upper and lower control arms:

Clunking Noises

Worn-out bushings and ball joints in the control arm can cause loud clunking or banging noises. If these components have been subjected to enough wear and tear, they’ll become loose enough within the casing to knock into the walls when driving on uneven terrain.

Vibrating Steering Wheel

A vibrating steering wheel is another major symptom of a bad control arm. The vibration often increases when you accelerate.

Steering Wander

Extremely worn bushings and ball joints could cause your steering wheel’s alignment to shift in one direction. This makes it more difficult to drive in a straight line.

Uneven Tire Wear

Uneven wear on your tires (e.g. excessive wear on the inner or outer edges) could indicate alignment issues caused by bent or broken control arms.

All of the aforementioned symptoms (i.e. clunking noises, uneven tire wear, a vibrating steering wheel, and steering wander) are also symptoms of bad control arm bushings. These symptoms could indicate suspension problems in your vehicle.

If you notice any of these symptoms, have your vehicle inspected by a certified mechanic.
